Chamber of the Sweet Rose, prelude

For the first time since she was a teenager, Jade found the sea calling to her, pleading with her to become one with it. The full white dress she had chosen to wear was flowing and billowing around her legs on the night breeze, as was her hair. She took a deep breath, the scent of the sea filling her senses completely as she stared hypnotically into the raging waves, feeling the power of the sea, of nature.

As she was about to let herself fall to her savior, she suddenly felt a presence. She looked around her quickly - startled but unafraid. There was no one near whom she could see. She looked towards the waves again, and then she heard it, a low voice calling to her. Turning to find the owner of the voice, she found herself facing him.

Jade gazed deep into the stranger’s eyes, feeling as if she knew him from somewhere but knowing she’d never before met him. He didn’t speak at first, didn’t reach out to touch her, and yet she could feel him all around her, could hear his thoughts speaking for him, invading her own thoughts. For several moments they stood upon the cliff, the sound of the crashing waves echoing around them, the moonlight enveloping them.

“Don’t be afraid,” he finally spoke.

“I’m not,” she replied honestly.

His hand reached out, the heat of his fingers scorching her cheek as he tenderly brushed the tips against her. She stepped closer, unconscious of her own movement. His hand pressed against her cold cheek as he continued to gaze at her tear-filled eyes.

“But you’re afraid of something, or someone,” he continued as Jade lowered her eyes from the intensity of his. She didn’t answer, just closed her eyes as his thumb traced over her bottom lip. Confusion slipped into her mind as she realized that she wasn’t afraid of his touch. For several years she had always been afraid of physical touch, to the point of becoming ill. The stranger took a step closer, tilting her head so that she would look up at him again.

“You’ve never known true love or passion - only lust and possessiveness,” he stated knowingly. Jade nodded, her lips quivering as she felt his breath against her.

“Let me show you passion,” his suggestion wasn’t a question, but rather almost a quiet demand - one that she found she couldn’t turn down. Again she found herself nodding, her lips whispering the word “yes” just as he lowered his mouth to hers, his kiss soft and tender, seeking, promising more then she’d ever experienced.

Backing away just slightly from her, Jade saw a flash of metal in his hands. Her eyes widened as she took a step back, staring into his eyes. The fear instantly subsided as she saw the look in his deep dark eyes. She watched as he unbuttoned the top couple buttons of his shirt, her heart pounding as he brought the dagger to his own flesh. Her eyes gazed deep into his as he made a small cut just a few inches under his collarbone, her eyes moving down to watch the blood trickle from the wound. His strong fingers moved to the back of her neck, holding her gently as he guided her closer to him.

“Drink from me,” he ordered gently, his voice a low whisper.

Jade hesitated for a moment, sighing softly as the man’s fingers slowly caressed her neck, easing the uncertainty she was feeling. Her tongue darted out, flicking against a drop of blood as it scorched down his chest. She licked up against the trail, moaning as she felt a power surge through her that she had never before felt. Suddenly feeling as though she were starving, she brought her mouth to his chest eagerly, hungrily sucking at the wound, tasting him, feeling his heart pound hard against her lips, his energy coursing through her.

She felt herself grow dizzy as the taste of him burned through her and she clung to him even tighter, sucking and licking urgently at his chest, feeling herself grow hotter the more she drank from him. She felt him shiver, his hands almost trembling as he grabbed her shoulders, pushing her away from him slightly. She glanced up at him, uncertainty clouding her eyes once more. She saw his look waver, as if the whole experience was too much for him, then suddenly the strong assured tender look was there again, gazing back at her.

With a once again steady hand, the tender stranger brought the dagger up to her chest, just above her breast, pressing it lightly against Jade’s smooth flesh as he stared intently into her cloudy eyes. A tremble flowed through her as she held his gaze, stepping closer, feeling the blade pressing tighter to her.

“Let me taste you?” This time it was a question, one that wasn’t pressuring. In response to his whispered request, she arched her back slightly, wincing slightly as the sharp blade lightly cut into her.

“Please,” she whispered into the cool night air, and he obliged, slowly dragging the blade across her satiny skin. She stifled a whimper, closing her eyes tightly, trying to hide the searing pain. Jade felt the man’s grip on her neck tighten protectively, reassuringly, and relaxed, letting herself feel the hot blood drip down her. Once again he tilted her head so that she would look at him, their eyes locked as he neared her, dipping his head to her chest, drinking hungrily from her. All the heat within her surged and boiled, pooling between her legs as she rocked against him in sudden desperate desire. She could suddenly see his thoughts, visions so intense and dark they made her weak. A shimmering black blanket seemed to close in around her and in the darkness she heard his low deep whisper as he asked again, “Will you let me show you passion?”
